Job Description :

Assist in the operating room set-up with necessary supplies and equipment for each surgical procedure.

Assist in the operating room clean-up and decontamination after each surgery.

Handle and dispose of Biomedical Waste according to policies and procedures.

Assist physician in completing the pre-operative interview consultation and assess a variety of patient needs.

Order / select / verify items required for surgery, including implants, garments, etc.

Assist physician with examinations / surgical procedures.

Be familiar with all forms and documents used in the operating room, the recovery room and patient’s chart.

Communicate physician’s instructions to health care agencies. Communicate and interpret physician’s instructions to patients.

Suggest solution to patient crisis, problems and complaints.

Assist physician during surgery.

Ensure a smooth flow in the operating room.

Coordinate patient care activities for the operating room and recovery room.

Follow strict traffic control and maintain sterile environment in the operating room and recovery room.

Act as a liaison between the operating room staff and the rest of the suite, as designated.

Maintain strict aseptic technique at all times.

Adhere to operating room/office dress code policy.

Prepare medications as ordered by the physician.

Perform accurate needle/sponge counts.

Transport, process and sterilize instruments and surgical trays according to established policies and procedures.

Maintain sterilization records and sterilization quality control records.

Perform routine maintenance of the autoclave.

Inventory stock and order supplies. Inventory stock medications.

Identify and resolve operation problems.

Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.

Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliation.

Maintain patient confidentiality.

Perform related work as required.

Required Qualifications :

Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care.

Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care.

Knowledge of surgical and medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.

Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe environment for patients and staff.

Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care.

Skill in preparing and maintain records and writing reports. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance.

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.

Ability to maintain Quality Control Standards.

Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.

Ability to communicate clearly and to carry out orders quickly and effectively.

Ability to follow and understand a surgical procedure and anticipate the surgeon’s needs.

Ability to work effectively as a team member within the organization.
