We are in need of a skilled Pressure Digger Operator for the Wildwood area of Florida. (NW of Orlando)
- Compensation will be negotiated / determined during the interviews process.
- Must have a clean driving record and background.
A "skilled" Pressure Digger Operator is a heavy equipment operator who primarily operates specialized machinery called "pressure diggers" to excavate trenches and underground utility lines with precision, often in close proximity to existing infrastructure, requiring a high level of skill in maneuvering the equipment while maintaining safety standards and following project specifications; their responsibilities include operating the pressure digger, performing pre-shift inspections, coordinating with other crew members, and ensuring proper site cleanup. Key responsibilities:
- Operating the pressure digger: Safely and efficiently operate the pressure digger to excavate trenches of various depths and widths, utilizing the machine's controls to precisely maneuver the digging head and maintain desired trench profile.
- Pre-shift inspections and maintenance: Conduct thorough pre-shift inspections of the pressure digger, including fluid levels, hydraulic systems, and safety devices, and perform basic maintenance tasks as needed.
- Site assessment and planning: Read and interpret site plans, locate existing utilities, and plan excavation routes to minimize damage to surrounding infrastructure.
- Coordination with crew members: Communicate effectively with other crew members, including surveyors, utility locators, and backfill personnel, to ensure proper excavation and safety procedures.
- Safety protocols: Adhere to all safety regulations, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, signaling procedures, and reporting any potential hazards.
- Accurate digging: Maintain precise digging depth and alignment to avoid damaging underground utilities or causing structural instability.
- Backfilling and cleanup: Assist in backfilling trenches with appropriate materials and ensuring the worksite is left clean and organized.
- Supervision and Management of the crew.
Required skills:
- Heavy equipment operation expertise: Proven experience operating heavy machinery, particularly with a focus on trenching and excavation techniques.
- Class "A" CDL
- Supervisory experience.
- Spatial awareness: Excellent hand-eye coordination and ability to maneuver the pressure digger in tight spaces with precision.
- Mechanical aptitude: Understanding of basic mechanical principles to perform routine maintenance and identify potential equipment issues.
- Safety awareness: Strong commitment to safety protocols and ability to identify and address potential hazards.
- Communication skills: Effective communication with crew members to coordinate activities and address any concerns.
Work environment:
- Outdoor construction sites, often working in varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to noise from heavy machinery and potential dust or dirt.
- Physical demands including prolonged sitting, hand-eye coordination, and operating.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
Experience:
- Pressure Digger: 2 years (Required)
- Substation construction: 2 years (Required)
License/Certification:
- Class A CDL (Required)
