Phlebotomist Position Goal: Responsible for performing venipuncture and other lab tests as well as other Medical Assistant duties as assigned. This could include assisting physicians with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks.
Verifies patient by reading patient identification.
Prepares equipment to efficiently collect blood products.
Performs venipuncture, arterial and capillary punctures on patients as directed by Physician and following medical practice protocols related to safety, infection control, and confidentiality.
Tracks collected specimens by initialing, dating, and noting times of collection.
Conducts laboratory tests on specimens.
Maintains daily tallies of collections performed and enters data into computer.
Assists donor before, during, and after donation. Instructs on urine collection procedures.
Cleans/sterilizes equipment, instruments, and work area following safety, cleanliness, and
Inventories supplies and places orders to ensure adequate supplies for procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Graduation from an accredited medical vocational institution, with Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant diploma.
Minimum one year of phlebotomy experience in a medical facility and/ or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office.
Electrocardiogram (EKG), vital signs, venipuncture, capillary, and injection current experience.
Certification as Medical Assistant or Phlebotomist required.
Must possess a current CPR certification and current health records with the appropriate immunizations to work in the health care field (hepatitis B and tuberculosis).
Willingness to work evenings and/ or weekends as needed
Willingness to attend continuing education courses at the request of the employer.
