Overview


A Real Estate Paralegal’s primary goal is to support our legal team with organizing and maintaining our filing system, ordering and reviewing title commitments, estoppels, and lien searches, complying with lender instructions as well as title and company requirements, clearing title requirements for closing, drafting and preparing pertinent closing documents to cure title defects, and gathering and researching all relevant papers, figures and documents. A Real Estate Paralegal provides quality service to clients at a lower billable rate than an attorney, providing a benefit to the clients of the Firm.


         


Responsibilities



  • Research property ownership and gather needed documents pertaining to the sale or refinance of the property

  • Collaborate with examination department to resolve title issues such as legal descriptions, easements, lot splits, vesting, all tax liens, abstracts of judgments, bankruptcies, boundary disputes, encroachments, list pendants, etc.

  • Ensure monetary amounts are correct and will satisfy mortgage, taxes and judgments’ costs

  • Secure all documents (corrective and others) that may be required for the issuance of title insurance

  • Assist customers and clients with closing related questions

  • Manage and develop client relationships to establish trusted and enduring relationships to ensure future real estate closing transactions

  • Correspond with lenders, builders, real estate agents, and attorneys as needed

  • Communicating with clients to provide updates and gather information

  • Drafting documents and preparing contracts by customizing standard forms

  • Drafting letters and simple closing documents

  • Filling out legal forms

  • Helping attorneys prepare transactions for closing

  • Contacting pertinent personnel to schedule closings

  • Preparing and filing related business entity documents

  • Writing reports and legal documents


 


Education & Experience



  • High School diploma or equivalent. College degree preferred

  • 3+ years’ experience as an escrow closer or real estate paralegal with knowledge and experience in handling real estate transactions from beginning to end, including but not limited preparing closing/settlement statements

  • 10-year background checks resulting in no derogatory items for credit, criminal, prior positions

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence

  • Strong communication and networking skills - oral, written, listening and presentation with and between multiple audience types, organizations, networking opportunities, and levels, etc.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

  • Strong project management skills and can work with people to establish/meet goals, objectives, and action plans

  • Present a high level of professionalism and handle confidential information with discretion

  • Highly assertive and able to deal with people at all levels including high level business associates/partners
