Medical Assistant
Job purpose:
The Allergy Assistant provides optimal patient-centered services.Under direct supervision of a provider, the assistant is responsible for performing a variety of technical and administrative support duties within the office to include, but not limited to assisting patients during office visits, taking patient histories, giving injections, performing skin testing, and other testing as needed. This position also serves as a resource for the clerical/clinical staff in the practice.
Essential Duties and responsibilities
- Delivers direct and indirect patient care in accordance with hospital/physician practices policies, procedures and protocols.
- Effective time management skills are of the utmost importance to prevent delays in patient care and in managing your workload
- Prepares charts for patient appointments to ensure all necessary information is complete.
- Prepares patient for examinations, treatments and procedures and reviews with provider the preparation and procedure to be performed prior to the provider entering the exam room
- Give injections and vaccines and perform allergy skin testing
- Obtain authorizations as needed
- Reconcile existing information for established patients manually or via patient portal. i.e., past medical history, current medications, surgeries, and family history.
- Ensure appropriate boxes are indicated in EMR
- Reviews charts at the end of patient encounters
- Verify accuracy before physician signs off on chart note. Identify any discrepancies and/or missing information.
- Obtaining proper consent forms and ensuring proper scope of practice is followed.
- Performs clerical functions in support of patient care and office functions.
- Answers phone calls, triage patients, take accurate messages and relay them to the provider via EMR
- Adheres to infection control and sterilization technique process, including standard precautions, to reduce the risk of acquiring or transmitting infections, including but not limited to wiping down the exam room, beds, equipment used, changing table paper and pillowcases and all other items as needed between each patient.
- Follows end of day room closure procedure.
- Reports all equipment failures or problems to the Lead MA and/or designated provider.
- Upload/scan all documents to an electronic system as needed.
- Adherence and compliance to company policies, procedures, operational objectives and goals.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of PHI in adherence and compliance to HIPPA regulations
- Performs Additional Duties as Assigned and Required.
· 2+ years Healthcare experience preferred. Certified or Registered MA is preferred.
· 2+ years of exceptional customer service delivery preferred
· Strong ability to prioritize daily, weekly and monthly tasks and adhere to deadlines
· High school diploma or equivalent required
· Highly skilled multi- tasker
· Strong attention to detail and quick learner
· Team Player
· Excellent and positive interpersonal, customer care, communication and critical thinking skills.
· Ability to work in a high volume and fast pace environment.
· A working knowledge of computers and computer programs, EMR/EHR experience preferred
· Knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred.
